Save-the-Date(ing)

03Feb10

Most people would agree that they would rather meet offline rather than online, even if they have to pay a higher fee to do so.   Thus spawned Hattie Elliot’s dating concept with a catchy name called Save-the-Date(ing).  Founder Hattie Elliot created a community of carefully vetted members who are single professionals living in New York City, Los Angeles and San Francisco.  Hattie and her team personally meet with each potential new member to evaluate the candidate.  Save-the-Dat(e)ing sets up monthly events that are centered around an ice-breaking theme such as wine-tasting, truffle-making, sailing, or cigar-rolling  where members can make new friends, professional contacts and hopefully a date.  Hattie, herself a twenty-something-year-old single gal with a background in marketing, set up this venture as an alternative to online dating.  I decided it would be fun to check out one of these events myself so I recently attended a Cigar Rolling & Whiskey Tasting event held at the upscale John Allan’s salon in mid-town.  A friend of mine who recently moved from San Francisco to Los Angeles asked me if I’d heard about it after reading the Yelp reviews.  Recently transplanted to LA she is looking to make new friends while building her professional network.  The fact that it’s personally vetted and a way to meet people “the old fashioned way” caught her attention.
